Shigenori Kudo
Widely respected for his luminous tone, technical mastery, and refined musicianship, Shigenori Kudo is recognized internationally as one of the leading flutists of his generation. Born in Sapporo, he studied at the Toho Gakuen School of Music before completing his training at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, where he earned the distinguished Premier Prix under the guidance of Jean-Pierre Rampal.
Shigenori Kudo’s career gained international attention after winning First Prize at the 2nd Paris International Flute Competition (1978) and First Prize at the inaugural Jean-Pierre Rampal International Flute Competition (1980), where he also received the French President’s Prize. These awards marked the beginning of an active global career that has taken him to more than 180 cities worldwide as a soloist and chamber musician.
With a discography of over 70 commercial recordings, Shigenori Kudo has contributed significantly to the flute’s recorded legacy. His releases have received honors such as the Agency for Cultural Affairs Arts Festival Award, the Muramatsu Award, and other distinctions recognizing artistic excellence.
Alongside his performing career, he remains deeply committed to education. Shigenori Kudo is active internationally as a teacher, visiting professor, and masterclass artist, sharing his experience with students and young professionals across Asia, Europe, and beyond.
