Two distinct professional trajectories
Two Paths of Artistic Emergence
The Emerging Artist of the Year award recognizes a flutist at an early stage of their professional career whose recent work demonstrates clear artistic direction and professional momentum.
The category is open to artists aged 17 – 35, or those within the first ten years of professional activity, whose contributions through performance, teaching, composition, or innovative projects reflect a meaningful step into the international flute landscape.
Among its most forward-looking categories, Emerging Artist of the Year highlights musicians whose recent work signals a clear transition from promise to professional presence.
The 2025 nominees represent two distinct trajectories of artistic development, each defined by sustained activity, international engagement, and a year of notable professional advancement
Fabian Johannes Egger (Austria)
Fabian Johannes Egger is nominated following a decisive international breakthrough in 2025. His First Prize at the International Kobe Flute Competition, one of the world’s most prestigious flute competitions, marked a defining moment in his career and confirmed his transition into the global professional arena.
As a direct result, Egger was invited to present an official First Prize Recital Series in Japan, with performances in Kobe and Tokyo, placing him before major international audiences.
Alongside his performance career, Egger is also an active composer, with original works for flute — most notably Life Is Not Enough — receiving international recognition. This dual focus on performance and composition distinguishes his artistic profile within his generation.
Ji-Hyuk Park(South Korea)
Ji-Hyuk Park is nominated in recognition of a year defined by professional consolidation and international visibility. In 2025, his activities included prize recognition at the Basel International Online Flute Competition, an invitation to perform in Japan, and his appointment as Principal Flutist of the Passionette Orchestra, leading major symphonic programs.
His profile further includes curated recital appearances, masterclasses, institutional teaching, and documented orchestral performances at major venues such as the Berlin Philharmonic Hall.
Trained in Europe and the United States, including studies at The Juilliard School, Park’s 2025 work reflects an emerging artist whose influence extends across performance, pedagogy, and international engagement.
Two Paths of Emergence
Together, the 2025 nominees illustrate two complementary models of emergence: one shaped by a major international competition breakthrough and creative work as a composer, the other by orchestral leadership, international performance, and mentorship.
The Global Flute Excellence Awards present Fabian Johannes Egger and Ji-hyuk Park as the Emerging Artist of the Year 2025 nominees, recognizing two distinct paths of artistic emergence.
The international judging panel now has access to the full nomination materials and detailed documentation for review and evaluation. Final results will be announced on January 10, 2026.
